Description of Single-layer spring washer
The single-layer spring washer (also known as a spring shim) is a commonly used anti-loosening component in mechanical assembly.
Its structure is an annular thin sheet with an opening, and it has a certain degree of elasticity after heat treatment. Its core function is to prevent bolts and nuts from loosening under working conditions such as vibration, impact, or temperature changes.
The specific functions are as follows:
1.Anti-loosening and fastening to prevent connection loosening
When the bolt and nut are tightened, the spring washer is compressed, and its opening produces elastic deformation, forming a continuous axial preload, which tightly “presses” the nut and the connected part.
This elastic force can compensate for the loss of preload caused by vibration, impact, or thermal expansion and contraction of materials, avoiding gaps between bolts and nuts, thereby preventing relative rotation (loosening) of the thread pair.
2.Auxiliary compensation for preload attenuation
In long-term use of bolted connections, the preload may decrease due to deformation of the connected parts, thread wear, etc. The elasticity of the spring washer can act as a “buffer pad”, supplementing part of the preload through its own rebound to maintain the tightness of the connection.
3.Slight pressure distribution effect (secondary)
Similar to flat washers, spring washers can also increase the contact area between bolts/nuts and the connected parts. However, their pressure distribution effect is weaker than that of flat washers (due to their thinner thickness and lower rigidity). They are usually not used alone as the main component for “surface protection”, but are more often used in conjunction with flat washers (flat washers are responsible for protecting the surface, and spring washers are responsible for anti-loosening).
